A postdoctoral position in “Targeting replication stress in brain tumors” is available at the Center for Life Nanoscience at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (CLNS@SAPIENZA, Rome, Italy).

The position is linked to a project focussing on:

  • In silico identification of potentially actionable molecular targets of the MYCN-dependent replication stress response;
  • Development of a preclinical bioluminescent MYCN-driven brain tumor mice model;
  • In vivo imaging of brain tumor modulation by pharmacological targeting of the MYCN-dependent replication stress response;

The ideal candidate has gained experience in:

  • Mechanisms of regulation of cell proliferation, DNA replication and DNA damage response;
  • Isolation and manipulation of Granule Cell Progenitors
  • Main techniques of translational Molecular Medicine, Cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology
  • Good knowledge and handling of genetically modified mice.

A postdoctoral position in ”Biophysics and Computer Science” is available at the Center for Life Nanoscience at  Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (CLNS@SAPIENZA, Rome, Italy).

The post doc will work on a project that aims at investigating the occurrence of emergent behavior within morphogenetic events occurring in vitro and in vivo in cell populations derived from single human stem cells. The project involves the use of long-term time lapse microscopy and other advanced microscopy tools. The detailed analysis and modeling of migratory and replicative behavior of single cells will be later integrated with single cell analysis of transcriptome and epigenome. The time lapse will be used to reconstruct the genealogical tree and the movements of the cells using an automatized computer code.

The construction of a realistic statistical model for the evolution of a single cell derived cell population is one of the goals of the projects.

Candidates should have a PhD in Physics or Computer Science and experience in picture segmentation

Previous work in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Statistical analysis of evolution models.
  • Statistical mechanics techniques.
  • Image acquisition in microscopy.
  • Image segmentation.
  • Construction of time-lapses and their analysis.

We are looking for highly motivated, young scientists.

 An internationally competitive salary, dependent on experience, will be offered.

A postdoctoral position in "Development of novel instrumentation for imaging and microscopy based on coherent and incoherent structured illumination" is going to be available at the Center for Life Nanoscience  at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (CLNS@SAPIENZA, Rome, Italy). The project connected to the position will involve the study and development of innovative imaging and microscopy techniques capable to achieve increased resolution deep in the volume of a medium through the use of coherent and incoherent structured illumination based on computer- generated holograms, deconvolution and non-conventional non-diffractive excitation patterns.
Ideal candidates have a PhD in Materials Science and a good knowledge of both Italian and English. Additional language skills are encouraged.

The project will explore:
  • Preparation of 3 dimensional bio-structure obtained from skeletal muscle primary cultures without the use of any artificial scaffold;
  • Preparation and in vitro morpho-functional characterization of co-culture systems between myogenic and neuronal cells, both in 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional systems;
  • Contactless measurement of muscular tissue contraction by a high-resolution and a high-speed “Digital Image Correlation” system on 3D co-culture;
  • Morphological and functional characterization of neuromuscular junctions (NMJ) in both 2 and 3 dimensional systems.
