Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia IIT (http://www.iit.it) is a private law Foundation, created with special Government Law no. 269 of September 30th 2003, with the objective of promoting Italy's technological development and higher education in science and technology. Research at IIT is carried out in highly innovative scientific fields with state-of-the-art technology.

A postdoctoral position in the “Synthesis of resorcarene macrocycles as artificial receptors” will be available within the Center for Life Nanoscience at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (CLNS@SAPIENZA, Rome, Italy).

The project will explore:
  • Organic synthesis of target resorcarene macrocycles.
  • Characterization of resorcarene macrocycles by physical methods such as NMR, X-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy.
  • Investigation and exploitation of synthesized resorcarene macrocycles in host-guest chemistry and drug delivery.
Applicants must have a degree in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry or related field, and should have obtained a Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Sciences preferably not earlier than 2 years from the deadline for the present call. They should have gained demonstrated experience in organic synthesis and characterization of macrocycles, with a particular focus on resorcarene compounds.
Moreover, applicants should be familiar with NMR, ESI-MS, GC-MS, FT-ICR-MS, UV-vis, HPLC instrumentation.

A good knowledge of both Italian and English is essential. The successful candidate is expected to have an educational background in organic chemistry, natural products chemistry or closely related fields and a record of past research activity. He/she should have produced at least 4 publications, including articles in peer-reviewed journals book chapters or Italian patent.
He/She should have been involved in one of the following areas: synthesis and/or characterization of resorcarene macrocycles; natural compounds. Attendance to international schools or participation in conferences focusing on the subjects of the call is considered a plus.

We value scientists with proactive attitude and result-oriented mindset, good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work efficciently within an interdisciplinary research team.

An internationally competitive salary, dependent on experience, will be offered.
