POST DOC CALL in “Nano-focusing of light” at CLNS IIT@Sapienza

BC 68987

Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) (http://www.iit.it) is a private law Foundation, created with special Government Law no. 269 dated September 30th 2003, with the objective of promoting Italy's technological development and higher education in science and technology. Research at IIT is carried out in highly innovative scientific fields with state-of-the-art technology.

A postdoctoral position in "Nano-focusing of light" will be available in the Center for Life Nanoscience at IIT (CLNS@SAPIENZA, Rome, Italy) allowing to work on the Nano-Raman Microscopy technological platform.

The project will focus on the development of an advanced microscopy technique involving various cutting-edge photonic techniques. The aim is to study sub-cellular structures and phenomena by means of high resolution spatio-spectral maps.

The work will focus on the development of light focusing techniques based on plasmonic systems.

Ideal candidates should have a PhD in Materials Science and a good knowledge of both Italian and English. Knowledge of additional foreign languages is a plus.

The position requires excellent specific skills in the following fields:
  • Lasing in complex and granular systems
  • Nonlinear optics in disordered systems and random lasing
  • Parallel computing applied to nano-photonics
  • Finite Difference Time Simulation on surface plasmon polaritons on metallic nanostructures (e.g., conical waveguides)
  • Soliton propagation in resonant and non-resonant systems
  • Shock waves and related phenomena
  • Spin-glass theory applied to photonic systems

The candidate must be familiar with the basic theoretical instruments and have extensive experience in numerical computing environments such Matlab, Mathematica, LabVIEW.

The position implies significant responsibility and exceptional reliability. Importantly, the chosen candidate will closely interface with other researchers from different backgrounds, such as molecular and cellular biologists, physics and engineers, for the development and improvement of new microscopy platforms to meet the needs of the research lines of the Life-Nanoscience IIT@Sapienza outstation.
Therefore, we are looking for an enthusiastic candidate keen on interacting and collaborating with colleagues from different disciplines.

An internationally competitive salary dependent on experience will be offered.

Interested applicants should submit their CV, list of publications, a statement of research interests, and the names of at least two referees by e-mail both to Prof. Giancarlo Ruocco (This email address is being protected from spambots.
