A postdoctoral position in "Nano-scale chemical mapping through nonlinear optics" will be available in the Center for Life Nanoscience at IIT (CLNS@SAPIENZA, Rome, Italy) allowing to work on the Nano-Raman Microscopy technological platform.
The project will focus on the development of an advanced microscopy technique involving various cutting-edge photonic techniques. The aim is to study sub-cellular structures and phenomena by high resolution spatio-spectral maps.
The work will focus on the development of non-standard new "ad-hoc" tools, platforms and software for imaging and spectroscopic analysis by integrating and interfacing different disciplines: biology, photonics and adaptive optics.
Ideal candidates should have a PhD in Materials Science and a good knowledge of both Italian and English. Knowledge of additional foreign languages is a plus.
The position requires excellent specific skills in the following fields:
- Active laser light modulation, micro lasing active control and mode locking,
- Adaptive optics; Spatial light modulator programming, and integration in optical microscopes and automatic routines.
- Nonlinear optics in disordered systems and random lasing.
- Pulsed laser triggering and synchronization.
- Variable Stripe Length technique.
- Enhanced Backscattering Cone technique.
- Light propagation in biological systems.
The candidate must be familiar with basic theoretical instruments for the study of photonics of disordered systems:
- Random Walk Simulation of optical systems.
- Coupled Modes Theory simulations of laser systems.
Extensive experience in and competence with imaging software for acquisition and analysis and instrument automation is required: Labview, Matalb, ImageJ.
The position involves significant responsibility and exceptional reliability. Importantly, the chosen candidate will closely interface with other researchers from different backgrounds, such as molecular and cellular biologists, physics and engineers, for the development and improvement of new microscopy platforms to meet the needs of the research lines followed by the Life-Nanoscience IIT@Sapienza outstation. Therefore, we are looking for an enthusiastic candidate keen on interacting and collaborating with colleagues from different disciplines.
An internationally competitive salary dependent on experience will be offered.
